Work Hours Formula and Decimal-Hour Method
Each clock value is converted to minutes after midnight. If the end is earlier than the start, 1,440 minutes are added to cross midnight. The entered unpaid break is subtracted from that shift span, and all active rows are summed before converting the weekly total to decimal hours.
Pay is calculated after time, not mixed into the time conversion. This prevents currency rounding from changing the hours. The annual model repeats one weekly result for the selected number of workweeks; semimonthly and monthly figures divide that annual projection into 24 or 12 averages.

How Overnight Shifts and Breaks Are Counted
A 10:00 PM start and 6:00 AM end is an eight-hour clock span because the end belongs to the following day. A 30-minute entered unpaid break leaves 7 hours 30 minutes of paid time. Identical start and end times are rejected instead of being guessed as either zero or 24 hours.
Break labels require judgment outside the calculator. U.S. Department of Labor guidance distinguishes short rest periods from bona fide meal periods and explains that a meal period generally requires the employee to be completely relieved from duty. GOV.UK guidance separately notes that payment for a rest break can depend on the employment contract. Enter the time treatment that actually applies; the calculator does not classify it for you.

Example 1: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM spans 8 hours 30 minutes. Subtracting a 30-minute unpaid meal leaves 8 paid hours. Repeated Monday through Friday, the week totals 40 hours or 2,400 paid minutes.
Example 2: Four overnight shifts from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM with 30 unpaid minutes each produce 30 paid weekly hours. The audit table marks each row as next day so the result is not mistaken for a negative interval.

Understanding the Overtime Scenario
Weekly threshold mode is a configurable arithmetic scenario. Hours at or below the entered threshold are multiplied by the base rate; hours above it are multiplied by the base rate and selected overtime multiplier. Turning the split off keeps all entered hours at the base-rate scenario.
Do not assume that 40 hours and 1.5x govern every person or payment. Jurisdiction, coverage, exemption, daily-overtime rules, industry exceptions, collective agreements, bonuses, commissions, and the legal regular rate can change payroll. Under the U.S. federal FLSA, for example, covered nonexempt overtime is generally workweek-based, and separate workweeks ordinarily are not averaged together.
How to Read the Timesheet and Pay Results
Clock time before breaks is the sum of every active shift span. Entered unpaid break time is shown separately, and paid weekly time is their difference. The daily table repeats the same reconciliation row by row and displays both hours-minutes and decimal hours for easier comparison with time cards and invoices.
Biweekly gross repeats the week twice. Semimonthly and monthly gross are averages derived from the selected annual workweek projection, so they are not exact checks for a calendar pay period containing holidays, leave, unequal weeks, or a different workweek boundary. It assumes each shift lasts less than 24 hours, uses local clock labels without dates or time zones, and does not model daylight-saving transitions.
