How to use the love calculator
Type a name and birth date for each person and press Show fun match. Nicknames, initials or fictional characters work fine, and so do made-up dates. If you're entering someone else's details, ask them first.
The same names and dates always give the same result, and swapping who goes first doesn't change it. Read the score as a conversation starter and treat the activity prompt as optional.

Worked example with two sample names
These are the results the calculator gives for the sample pair on the page. Swap the two people and every number stays the same. Change Taylor to Tayler and the fun score moves to 81 with a different set of theme scores, because the spelling feeds the number generator.
The birthday rows are real date math. The fun score and themes are generated game values.

How the fun score is made
The calculator lowercases each name, strips spaces and punctuation, and pairs it with that person's birth date. It sorts the two pairs so the order you typed them in doesn't matter, then runs them through a hash function, a bit of math that turns text into a number that looks random but is always the same for the same input.
Four variations of that hash produce the Spark, Conversation, Adventure and Teamwork scores, each between 45 and 99. Their average is the fun score. Because nothing can go below 45, the game never hands out a crushing result. That's a design choice, not a finding.

Love compatibility calculator vs real compatibility
Any love compatibility calculator that works from names, birthdays or zodiac signs is a game. Names are chosen by parents, and birth dates are an accident of timing. Neither tells you how two people talk, argue, share chores or treat each other.
The things that do matter show up in how people behave over time. The CDC's Dating Matters materials describe healthy relationships in terms of trust, honest communication, respect, boundaries and room for each person's own interests. No calculator can see any of that.
Name compatibility and zodiac signs
The shared-letters row lists every letter that appears in both names, and the name blend joins pieces of the two. They're there because they're fun to look at. Neither row feeds into the score.
Zodiac signs come from the usual Western date ranges, with a fire, earth, air or water label. NASA's Space Place notes that astrology's claims aren't based on scientific evidence. Here the signs are decoration, and they don't raise or lower anything.
Playing it kindly
Keep it light. A high score doesn't mean feelings are mutual, and a low one is no reason to tease anyone or end anything. Don't use someone's name and birth date without asking. NIST counts names combined with dates of birth as personally identifiable information.
